Port of Houston Bayport Container Yard
Phase 1, Stage 1

Klotz Associates prepared construction plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E). Project scope included site layout, grading, drainage, and utilities to support 45-acres of concrete pavement. The project included approximately 150,000 sy of 18" Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) pavement, 63,000 sy of 14" RCC pavement and another 11,000 sy of Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Pavement. The project also had approximately 300,000 cy of embankment and the construction of water lines, sanitary sewer lines, a new electrical Building Substation and a new electrical Reefer Substation.

Phase 1, Stage 2
Klotz Associates completed the design documents for the continued expansion to the Bayport Container Yard. Project scope included site layout, grading, drainage, and utilities to support 48-acres of concrete pavement. The project included the option for the contractor to bid on Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) pavement or Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Pavement. The project also involved construction of water lines, sanitary sewer line, storm sewer lines and additional electrical infrastructure.

Phase 3

The Bayport Gate Phase 3 project consisted of four separate parts.  The Construction of Phase 3 Entry and Exit Gate included design of a new entry gate into the container yard and re-design of the existing entry/exit gate into an exit only.  The entry gate included the design of canopies, buildings, electrical, storm, sanitary, water, striping, fencing, grading, Portland cement pavement and roller compacted concrete pavement.  The exit gate included demolition of the existing entry gate and expansion of the existing exit gate.

The Gate Phase 3 package also included design of the Master Drainage Plan south of Port Road, security for the entry and exit gate, and the Convert Temporary Building Area to Container Yard.

This project had four parts.  The first design consisted of converting an existing building area at the port to a striped chassis area.  The second design consisted of designing a master drainage plan for the entry gate.  The third design consisted of designing a new entry gate for the port.  The fourth design consisted of modifying the exit / entrance gate to an exit only gate.

For the Entry Gate, Klotz Associates designed the storm sewer, sanitary lines, water lines, pavement and detention ponds.  We assisted in the design of the pavement thickness and determined that it was in our client's best interest to design a Portland cement concrete design and a roller compacted concrete design.  We then designed the joint layouts for both pavement types.  We designed the water line with fire hydrants placed around the entry gate and assisted in the design of the sanitary sewer from the lift station to three buildings at the entry gate.  We designed the storm sewer pipe sizes and the flow line elevations to allow the storm to tie into the detention ponds without penetrating the subgrade for the pavement. 

For the Exit Gate, we determined how the demolition of the entry gate and the expansion of the exit gate should be completed.
